Was she running from someone? If she was, who was it? These are all questions that Austin homicide detective Brandon Reynolds has to find out the answers to, but Vanessa’s attorney, Leigh Larson, keeps interfering in his case and his life。 Can they find out what happened to Vanessa together before it’s too late?I’m frustrated with this book。 I spent eight days reading it。 Yes, you read that right。 Eight days。 That is unheard of when I am reading。 What was the problem you ask? Nothing was happening。 Sure, there were words on the page, but no action and no chemistry。 Just nothing。 I kept waiting for something to happen, but as a reader you were left in limbo until the last 75 percent。 Is she alive? Is she dead? What is going on? At that point I was not invested anymore in figuring out the mystery of what really happened to Vanessa。Another thing that I had trouble with was that Brandon and Leigh as a couple do not make sense on page together。 I think the author tried too hard to pair up a hero who is guarded and extremely stoic with a heroine who is uncommonly aggressive and confident, but it didn’t work。 Brandon cuts off any conversation with Leigh after about five sentences。 So, I never actually bought the emotional connection between them。 It almost felt like they were attracted to each other because of the danger, and not because they really knew or liked the other person。I think that this book is well written, and if you are already a fan of romantic suspense authors like Nora Roberts and Pamela Clare then this story might hit all the beats for you。~ Michelle 。。。more

I liked this a lot! The heroine occasionally frustrated me, but I thought the hero and heroine were very well matched and I was really rooting for them throughout the book。 Was interesting to see revenge porn in one of these books, if my memory serves, that isn't something the author has touched before。 It seemed about as matter of fact about the subject as you can get, depressing as it is。 As ever, looking forward to the next one。 I liked this a lot! Last Seen Alone is the newest book in the Texas Murder Files series by Laura Griffin。 This book is easily read as a stand alone。 There is usually a character connected to previous books, but it is not necessary to read previous books to try and catch up。The book starts with a bang with the disappearance of Vanessa。 She meets with someone and is given something in a bag in exchange for money。 She stops on the side of the road to check her bag but gets out of her car and runs when she sees a car s Last Seen Alone is the newest book in the Texas Murder Files series by Laura Griffin。 This book is easily read as a stand alone。 There is usually a character connected to previous books, but it is not necessary to read previous books to try and catch up。The book starts with a bang with the disappearance of Vanessa。 She meets with someone and is given something in a bag in exchange for money。 She stops on the side of the road to check her bag but gets out of her car and runs when she sees a car stop behind her。 She is chased into the woods by someone。 Her fear is intense。When Detective Brandon Reynolds is called to investigate an abandoned vehicle, he and his partner discover Vanessa has vanished。 Her purse, phone and keys are all left in the car。 There is blood on the car door and they find more blood in the woods。 They aren't sure if this is a missing person case or a murder case。 The only clue left behind is a business card for an attorney named Leigh Larson。 Brandon and his partner track her down on her way to court。 Detective Reynolds and Leigh don’t start off on the right foot。 She is in a hurry for court and he wants answers now。 Of course Leigh doesn’t tell him anything。 She vaguely remembers Vanessa coming to see her once, but suspects Vanessa didn’t tell her the full story。 Leigh deals with women who have been victims of revenge porn and sexual harassment。 She has her own reasons for seeking justice for her clients and wants to find Vanessa。Brandon and Leigh are constantly being thrown together with this case。 For every step forward that Brandon makes, Leigh seems to be involved in some way。 The mystery involving Vanessa and the give and take between Brandon and Leigh make this a great read。 Ms。 Griffin has once again told a story that involves real life situations。 Her attention to detail makes this an extremely intense story。Last Seen Alone is a fantastic book。 The mystery surrounding the disappearance of Vanessa was page turning。 I was up way too late in the night finishing this book。 The characters are believable and the suspense is engaging。 The supporting characters were just as interesting as the main characters and I hope they their own story。Ms。 Griffin is on my auto-buy list, and I eagerly look forward to each new book。 I have read all of her books and thoroughly enjoyed each one。 She writes fantastic characters, unbelievable suspense and creates a world I can become immersed in。 I highly recommend this new book。 。。。more

Last Seen Alone by Laura Griffin was a mystery thriller with a romance thrown into the story。 The two main characters Leigh a lawyer and Brandon the detective but are looking for the same missing girl。 Leigh was hired to be her attorney and paid the retainer fee and she hadn't heard from her since。 She knows there's more then what seems going on。 Brandon and his partner are trying to see is she just missing or has the case turned into a homicide? They aren't working together and he keeps trying to tell her to stay out of the case but she won't leave it alone。 Turns out they need each other more then one way。 But because she has gotten herself involved and asking to many questions she gets attacked at work。 Is it because of the case is it a random break in? These are all the questions Brandon has to ask and find out。 The more they go down the rabbit hole the more things that start to come out。 There are a lot of twists and turns in this one and there is a slow burn romance in this story。my only complaint is i felt the ending was a little rushed。 AS soon as she finds out some things everything just started rushing ahead without it feeling more flushed out。 But who doesn't love a good creepy missing person story。 The story started out with a bang and keep you hooked。Thanks to NetGalley/,Berkley publishing for a copy of the Audio Arc in exchange for my honest review。 。。。more
Natalie,
Thank you to Laura Griffin, Dreamscape Media, and NetGalley for the opportunity to review the audio version of Last Seen Alone。Leigh Larson fights for victims of sexual extortion, harassment, and online abuse。 Leigh recently met a woman names Vanessa who was interested in hiring her but now now Vanessa is missing。 Cue the hunky detective Brandon Reynolds who is investigating Vanessa's disappearance。 The narration for this audiobook was good and there was one decent romance scene。 Other than that Thank you to Laura Griffin, Dreamscape Media, and NetGalley for the opportunity to review the audio version of Last Seen Alone。Leigh Larson fights for victims of sexual extortion, harassment, and online abuse。 Leigh recently met a woman names Vanessa who was interested in hiring her but now now Vanessa is missing。 Cue the hunky detective Brandon Reynolds who is investigating Vanessa's disappearance。 The narration for this audiobook was good and there was one decent romance scene。 Other than that, this whole story was essentially a "Great Value" Gone Girl where none of the characters were interesting and they seemingly can't help but make poor choices at every single turn。 The fact that at least 3 of the characters weren't charges with obstruction of justice was insane。 I know that this is a fiction book but I was annoyed at pretty much every character except for Vanessa's sister。 If you're a fan of this author, by all means pick it up。 You probably already know what you're getting yourself into。 Otherwise, just go and re-read Gone Girl instead。 。。。more

Vanessa Adams’ car is abandoned by the side of the road; her purse, car keys, and wallet left inside。 She’s nowhere to be seen, but there’s blood…Homicide Detective Brandon Reynolds is called in to investigate, and he’s got a bad feeling。 One of the clues left in the car is attorney Leigh Larson’s card and so he tracks her down eager to find some answers。Leigh, an attorney specializing in cases of sexual harassment, revenge porn, stalkers, and more, had one meeting with Vanessa, but she left an Vanessa Adams’ car is abandoned by the side of the road; her purse, car keys, and wallet left inside。 She’s nowhere to be seen, but there’s blood…Homicide Detective Brandon Reynolds is called in to investigate, and he’s got a bad feeling。 One of the clues left in the car is attorney Leigh Larson’s card and so he tracks her down eager to find some answers。Leigh, an attorney specializing in cases of sexual harassment, revenge porn, stalkers, and more, had one meeting with Vanessa, but she left an impression。 Leigh suspected there was more to her story than Vanessa told her and starts looking into it more closely after Brandon questions her about the case。 Brandon is less than thrilled with Leigh’s involvement, but as they’re working toward the same goal: finding Vanessa, they form a reluctant partnership。 Last Seen Alone was an addictive read! From page one I was sucked into the mystery of Vanessa’s disappearance, following the trail of clues, and interviewing the suspects。 Brandon doesn’t completely trust Leigh’s motives at first and doesn’t want her in danger。 But as they investigate, they get to know each other, crossing paths as they get down to the bottom of the story, albeit at different angles。 There’s a definite immediate attraction that neither Brandon nor Leigh welcomes, but it’s irresistible anyhow。 Even though they were a bit adversarial at first, they had chemistry! I loved getting to know these two and what made them tick。 There was more of a back story for Leigh, the reason she was so passionate fighting for her clients, and I really admired her。 The dirtbags she went after deserved some reckoning! I’m sad to say that some of the situations are very true-to-life。With Last Seen Alone, Laura Griffin combined mystery, police procedural and romance in just the right amounts making for a captivating read! I alternately read an e-copy and listened to the audio version of Last Seen Alone。 Cynthia Farrell is a new-to-me narrator, and it took a bit to get used to her matter-of-fact reading style, but the more I listened, the more I settled in and enjoyed。 I listened at my 1。5x normal speed。 A copy was provided by Berkley Books and Dreamscape Media in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more
Kris Zeller,
I really enjoyed this book! I love Griffin's characters, they are deep enough to be real but she doesn't bog down the book with lengthy overt descriptions。 This book was a quick read and it held my interest and the twist surprised me。 My only criticism is that the romance scenes get a little length and I don't need that, especially because I find it kind of awkward to listen to。 I wasn't familiar with the author's name and it was on NetGalley as a mystery/thriller。 That being said, it wasn't cra I really enjoyed this book! Star Gater,
I had high expectations upon requesting this read from NetGalley, and was more disappointed than I am when I am declined a book by NetGalley。 I can't get my time back to be spent on a good read, and I know they are out there。 A seasoned attorney falls for a seasoned detective。 Yippee。 How unbelievably unrealistic is this? The cheesy dialogue is proof positive this is not plausible。 The story was just lame and is lower in content than a B movie。 Kudos for pointing out keeping a journal when stran I had high expectations upon requesting this read from NetGalley, and was more disappointed than I am when I am declined a book by NetGalley。 I can't get my time back to be spent on a good read, and I know they are out there。 A seasoned attorney falls for a seasoned detective。 Yippee。 How unbelievably unrealistic is this? Jodi,
Vanessa Adams is the woman the reader meets at the beginning。 The last we see of her she is running through woods。 Her car’s found, her body’s not; however, there is a lot of blood in the woods。 The police can’t consider this a homicide without a body, but all signs point that way。 Defense attorney Leigh Larson is the one person that might have some answers but because of her relationship with the young woman gets mired in the investigation to the point of making herself a target。 Testing proves Vanessa Adams is the woman the reader meets at the beginning。 The last we see of her she is running through woods。 Her car’s found, her body’s not; however, there is a lot of blood in the woods。 The police can’t consider this a homicide without a body, but all signs point that way。 Defense attorney Leigh Larson is the one person that might have some answers but because of her relationship with the young woman gets mired in the investigation to the point of making herself a target。 Testing proves the blood belongs to Vanessa Adams but no body is found。 Even though technically there is no homicide, Brandon and Antonio continue to work this case。 Brandon tracks down Leigh Larson, an attorney who represents women stalked and harassed online by exes。 She had met Vanessa once but only becomes her attorney when she received a retainer check by mail the day after Vanessa disappeared。 Brandon and Leigh work individually to learn Vanessa's fate but sparingly share details with the other。 Regardless of the trust issues between Brandon and Leigh, a romance develops。 Brandon only feels more protective of Leigh after she is assaulted by someone with probable connections to Vanessa。 He tries to persuade Leigh to stop her investigation but Leigh won't stop until she finds Vanessa or what happened to Vanessa。 I did struggle to like Vanessa。 out victim, if I'm honest。 She was kind of her own worst enemy。 There are plenty of layers to the story and I was kept very engaged。 This story is intense with the real-world issues faced today by many women of stalking and revenge when relationships fail。Thank you NetGalley, Dreamscape Media and Berkeley Publishing for the ARC。 。。。more
